Wax Removal

What technique is used for Wax Removal?

Micro-suction: This is now the preferred technique of ear care specialists to remove wax and debris from the ear canal.

This is our most commonly used method of wax removal.

It is the technique used widely by ear care specialist including ENT consultants in a hospital setting. It is much more pleasant and safer than the more traditional methods of syringing. This method involves suctioning the debris from the ear without the use of water.

This method of micro-suction is suitable for both adults and children (6+ years) who are able to sit or lie still during the procedure.

Instrumentation may be used where wax is soft and not entirely blocking the ear. This involves the audiologist ‘hooking’ the wax out of the ear using a specialised tool.

Irrigation:

Occasionally and only where deemed appropriate; we may use an irrigation method to remove wax from your ears. A jet of warm water is gently circulated around the ear canal to loosen and remove wax.
